![]() (4) You have wired between them using 2core+e cable, so's they come on together. (3) Two light fittings fitted, one up and one down. (2) You have wired between them using 3core+e cable (and the 'e' is important) (1) Two 2-way light switches fitted, one up and one down. It doesn't have to be a junction box - some people 'loop-in', and others will do their wiring behind the switch. Plasterer, what I mean by 'wiring point' is where you are going to connect it all together - ie: a junction box. And that's the test - if that bit's confusing, you shouldn't be doing it. You then have the job of connecting these 2 wires up to the rest of your circuit. So what that diagram (and it has nothing to do with me) shows is how to wire up a couple of 2-way light switches so that you end up with the '2 terminals' you need to switch the light. Most people don't know what a 2-way light switch is or how to wire them up. Most people know what a basic light switch is, and that it has two terminals. If you want to do your own wiring, and find that diagram confusing, then you shouldn't be doing your own wiring. If you look at that diagram above, the brown and black wires effectively become your 'switch' wires in the junction box - all you then need to do is connect the wires going to your 2 lights and the power supply to these 2 wires - all in series. What you'd then do is bring this 3-core wire to your junction box on its way to the upstairs switch, and connect the brown and black wires from the 3-core cable to a couple of terminals inside it. For instance, instead of taking the 3-core wire AND a 2-core wire to the upstairs light switch, you could make do with just the 3-core wire. ![]() There are other ways to actually 'join' all these wires together. That's the basic principle explained up there. It is actually quite straight-forward, but at the same time surprisingly confusing. This looks like a clear diagram to start with: Ģ-way wiring is a weird thing. The two lights will be connected in parallel together - basically join them together with 2core+e - and continue this cable to the junction box.įinally, you'll need yer akshull power - you take this from your existing upstairs lighting supply circuit. From the upstairs switch you will also run a 2core+e cable to your 'wiring point', ie: wherever it's convenient to fit a junction box. You'll then need to run 3core+e cable from the downstairs switch to the upstairs one. The ambiance setting is remembered by the switch but can be altered just like any other dimmer. You will need a 2-way light switch in each location - up and down stairs. You are then able to set the light to the required ambiance and turn it on and off. It is also possible to install or fit a variation on the theme by combining dimmer and "throw" switches on the same plate. However if you need two switches to control a single lighting circuit, such as in the case of at the head and foot of stairs so you can switch the lights on and off in both places, you need to understand a 2 ‘way’ switch. If you have a dimmer switch they are described in the same way a 1 gang dimmer switch will have a single dimmer on the plate, and a 2 gang dimmer switch will have 2 dimmers and so on.Ī 1 gang switch will control a single lighting circuit, and with a 2 gang switch you can control two lighting circuits, and so on. ![]() It is possible to get more, but it is very uncommon to have more that three in a domestic setting – this would be called a 3 gang switch. They are sometimes called rockers, throws or dimmers, depending on how they operate, but still they just refer to the number of light switches on the plate. "Gang" describes the number of switches on the plate.

![]() So many stories about cancer end up with someone dying. It just felt a bit cliche to kill off someone. The other part of the book I wasn’t so keen on was the fact that one of the main characters died. If anything, the disappointment brought them closer. And I liked that they still had a wonderful time in Amsterdam. So many of our dreams and idols end up not being what we expected, so in that way it’s realistic. But then again, it made it feel a bit more realistic that it wasn’t as perfect as they wanted. It would have been nice if the author had lived up to their expectations. In a way, I’d have liked their visit to the author Peter Van Houten to have gone well. There wasn’t much of this book I didn’t like. If you’re thinking of visiting Amsterdam, this is a great book to get inspired for your trip. It really inspired me to go to this city and see all the sights that were mentioned in the book. The descriptions of the city were perfect, and it felt like such a romantic place for the teenagers to fall in love. I also loved the section of this book that was set in Amsterdam. We never know what’s round the corner, so it’s so important to make the most of every moment while we still can. It’s one of these books that really makes me appreciate the fragility of life, and how it’s so important to make the most of every moment. It was so lovely that Hazel and Gus had found love, even though it was so short. If you’d like to read this book, click on this link or the picture below to buy it from Amazon (affiliate).Īlthough the ending of this book is really sad, it still left me with a warm feeling. In the letter, Gus tells Hazel he loves her. But Peter Van Houten attends his funeral, and brings Hazel a letter that he helped Gus write. Then there’s the most heart-breaking scene in the book – Gus invites Hazel and his friends to his pre-funeral to hear their eulogies. ![]() They go back to the USA to enjoy the rest of their time together. However, Gus reveals to Hazel that his cancer has come back and is now terminal. They’re upset, but they continue to enjoy Amsterdam and fall in love. However, they discover the author they have idolised is an alcoholic, and he laughs at their questions about a fictional character. They go to visit Peter Van Houten in his house with high expectations. They enjoy a romantic dinner, and spend time in the city. This is my favourite part of the book, where they fall in love in the beautiful city of Amsterdam. Gus manages to get them tickets to go to Amsterdam. Hazel dreams of meeting him to ask about the ending of this book. The author of her favourite book, Peter Van Houten, lives in Amsterdam. Hazel’s favourite book is about a girl with cancer, but she has never been satisfied with the ending. The two get to know each other by discussing their love for books. Her mother encourages her to go to a support group, where she meets Gus, a boy who has also had cancer. The Fault In Our Stars follows the story of Hazel, a teenage girl with cancer. The way I read it, it’s a celebration of the beautiful experiences we can have in our lives, even when things are difficult. It deals with the sensitive, emotional topic of teenage cancer, but in many ways it’s not a sad book. My book review of The Fault In Our Stars by John Green is really positive, because I really love this book. The Colorado National Monument just outside of town is on my list. We walked around a little bit to stretch our legs but didn’t get to enjoy the area very much. Our Springhill Suites located right downtown was a perfect location. Grand Junction seemed like a great area as well however, we arrived right at sunset and didn’t get to explore much. Since we didn’t want to be out and about in a big city at this time, we drove around downtown, ate at Zombie Burger + Shake Lab, and saw the beautiful golden-domed capitol building. We then drove to Iowa City to visit the University of Iowa and then headed to Des Moines. ![]() ![]() We saw signs that President Reagan grew up in this area, which was a fun, random fact for the day. We stopped into Princeton, IL for a quick breakfast and coffee at Flour House and loved the charming downtown. Today we were driving through America’s Heartland. I had planned for an early wake up to hike at Starved Rock State Park, but we needed the extra hour or two to sleep. We were all very happy with our burgers, ramen, and sushi. We arrived at the Holiday Inn Express Ottawa and while the kids took showers, we ordered takeout from Burger and Sushi House. We calculated that this trip cost us just over $3,000. We drove almost 7,000 miles in 18 days, and because we drove in my Subaru Crosstrek, we got about 35 miles per gallon. When we ate outdoors, we did splurge and ordered drinks, appetizers, and dessert. We could’ve opted for more fast-food or quicker meals, but since we hadn’t “been out” since March, we may have gone a little overboard. We brought water and snacks with us and had to purchase some lunch items and more water as the trip progressed. We did not enter any museum up until the end of the trip and did pay for parking sometimes and state park admissions. Our admission to the national parks was free, thanks to the 4th grade National Parks Pass. We took advantage and of the 17 nights, we only paid for two! Since travel was still scarce in early June, the point value for many hotels was very very low. We had over 100K IHG points and a free night, 16K Hyatt points and a free night, and 2 Marriott free nights. One of the reasons we went ahead with this cross country travel on a national parks road trip is because we knew this trip would be as inexpensive as we would ever see it due to the need for domestic tourism and the reduced prices. 2020 Summer Road Trip Map – Cross Country Travel Cross Country Road Trip Cost I think everyone on the team grew immensely during this project. Process-wise, I had never worked in a collaboration like that before. It was completely new for me but overall the songs felt “bigger” than anything I would do on my own. Process-wise, I had never worked in a collaboration like that before: first receiving a song, with guitar and vocals, from Jonathan Eng, and then turning it into an electronic piece with Linnea Olsson redoing the vocals. Because of that, there was this feeling of having to make the music more accessible and not too abstract. It was definitely more of a challenge since the music was a major focus of the game, center stage. Some of your most recent work was with Simogo, once again, in audio design and the soundtrack for Sayonara Wild Hearts can you talk a little about the collaborative process of producing a 'pop album video game', and how those processes perhaps differed from your previous work? ![]() From an audio perspective, it was more in the style of a movie or cutscene rather than a game. Instead of things happening at random, everything was planned out so that most sounds could be designed for one specific moment. Because of the linear stage design, the sound effects were designed in a linear manner as well-similar to Sayonara Wild Hearts in some ways. It was a very satisfying project to work on, from a development perspective. Then, the team told me The Gardens Between was inspired by Year Walk, and they were happy to have me there which gave me more confidence to just work the way I usually do. It’s hard to be confident when you pick up where someone left off so at first, I was more cautious than I would be otherwise. It was a new experience to come into a project at such a late stage-music was already there and work on sound effects had begun. I really enjoyed working on that game, and with that team. We could accidentally insert the wrong data types in the columns. However, SQLite will not reject values of the wrong type. The example below shows that the id column expects to store integers, the name column expects to store text, and the age column expects to store integers: SQLite creates schemas, which constrain the type of data in each column, but it does not enforce them. Where many other database software would reject data that does not conform to a table’s schema, SQLite allows users to store data of any type into any column. Lastly, SQLite does not validate data types. Furthermore, SQLite does not offer the same exact functionality as many other database systems, limiting some advanced features other relational database systems offer. ![]() It also may require some more work to ensure the security of private data due to the same features that make SQLite accessible. The source code for SQLite is in the public domain. SQLite’s signature portability unfortunately makes it a poor choice when many different users are updating the table at the same time (to maintain integrity of data, only one user can write to the file at a time). SQLite is the most widely deployed SQL database engine in the world. This fact allows for a great deal of accessibility: copying a database is no more complicated than copying the file that stores the data, sharing a database can mean sending an email attachment. In SQLite, a database is stored in a single file - a trait that distinguishes it from other database engines. It is software that allows users to interact with a relational database.
